This news sounds beautiful to the ears for all motorist in the Philippines. Reminiscing the time where corruption is too notorious in our driving government agency which is LTO (Land Transportation Office), there are two words bear in my mind which is cheat and patience.
Cheating never wins
Why “cheat?” The word defines itself. Fixers are everywhere. Prices are too high if you will be needing an assistance from fixers which in reality, they have an accomplice inside the LTO office. They will sometimes force you to avail their so-called “undeniable service.” You don’t need to have much knowledge about driving rules and regulation in our country to pass the written and practical LTO examination. Just provide money and they will do the rest. They are like leeches that sucks the blood or should I say money from your pocket.
Patience is a virtue
Why “patience?” back in the days I applied for a non-professional driving license, the word patience is a must. You need to come early so that you will be included in their daily quota. It took me two days in applying for a driver’s license. On the first day, it is where I took the medical exam and drug test (abolished in these days) because I was not included in the daily quota. On the second day I thought it would be easy, but it took a long time to be called on the written and practical examination. Therefore, it does not satisfy my day even if I passed the exam because I didn’t obtain my driver’s license right away due to a malfunctioned card printer. Bottom line, you need a lot of patience and temperance to get a new driver’s license.
A touch of good news
Oh, I almost forgot, this post is all about the five-year validity of driver’s license implementation.
From the official website of LTO, effective October 08, 2016, driver’s license and conductors license shall be valid five years from the date of registration in accordance of Administrative Order No. 2016-34. It sounds really good news. This is a great move which will minimize the time spent prior to driver’s license renewal.
It was one of the initial accomplishment of our President Rodrigo Duterte on his first 100 days in the office. However, by upgrading their system, the processing of it will be valid in the schedule below, and if you apply for a license before that date, you will be provided with a three-year validity of your license. So, it’s better to apply during or after the said schedule.

And before I forgot, in a five-year validity of driver’s license, there is a slight price increase. Before, a total of P585.26 will be charged for a new license application, but now it is P820.26. For driver’s license renewal, it is P652.63 unlike before which is P417.63. I should say it’s worth the price on a slight price increase, and I see little by little the ray of light from the previous government. Change is really coming!

I applied for a renewal of my Non-Professional Drivers License last January 19, 2017, at the LTO branch office in Marikina. The same day I got only a receipt with a hand written note saying the expiration or validity is for five (5) years. When could I claim the new plastic driver’s license?

Yes, you can. If it is valid, there’s no exam. You can contact your nearest LTO office directly.

Ok yun, birthdate is always the date of expiration of driver’s license.
